Fuel Injection System
For most of the existence of the internal combustion engine, the carburetor has been the device that supplied fuel to the engine.

Fuel injection is the introduction of fuel in an internal combustion engine by the means of an injector
The fuel injection system provides precise air-fuel-ratio control, which allows, easy engine operation, good adaptation to a wide range of altitudes and ambient temperatures, controlled engine speed, good fuel efficiency, and the lowest achievable exhaust emissions.
All fuel injection systems comprise three basic components:
- have at least one fuel injector
- a device that creates sufficient injection pressure (fuel distributor)
- a device that meters the correct amount of fuel. (fuel pump)
In modern engines, the fuel metering and injection valve actuation is usually done by the engine control unit (ECU).
Fuel system leaks can lead to poor performance, high fuel consumption and hard starting. In some cases, this may be very dangerous. Any external fuel leak could lead to a fire.
There are a few signs and symptoms that might be able to point you to fuel injection problem. For example: misfiring engine; strong fuel odour; fuel leak; engine revs high and low; uneven engine while you are idling; reduced fuel economy to name a few.
